Simply,
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) means "Universal Life Force Energy". Good
health depends on the quality of life-force or Ki that is flowing through our
bodies. Ki is the non-physical energy that animates all living things. It is the
primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life. If a person's life-force
is low, or there is a restriction in the flow, they are more vulnerable to illness.
When it is high and flowing freely they are less likely to get sick. The powerful
healing properties of Reiki can be experienced by all who are drawn to it either
as a healer or a healee. It is a divinely guided form of energy that enhances
the flow of Ki through all living things and has an intelligence all of its own. Reiki
cleanses the body of built up toxins, relieves pain, comforts, soothes, calms
and releases emotional trauma. It loosens blocked energy and accelerates the body's
own natural ability to heal itself, at the same time promoting a state of total
relaxation and well-being. The Reiki energy is perceived as heat, coolness or
tingling that comes from the channel's hands. It is gentle and stimulates the
body's own innate wisdom to heal at the cause of the problem, promoting a holistic
balancing of body, mind and spirit. Unlike some forms of healing the practitioner
does not draw from his/her own energy. In fact as the healee draws the Reiki energy
through the channel he/she receives treatment at the same time. Reiki is totally
harmless, it will only heal and protect and cannot be mis-used. People of any
age can benefit from it as can plants and animals. Healing
through human touch is the oldest and simplest of all the therapies available
to us. The act of laying on of hands to comfort, heal and relieve pain conveys
warmth, caring and affection. It is an act of love. This is the basic instinct
a mother has when her child is unwell or hurt, it comes from deep within. In the
same way an animals mother's first instinct is to lick or nuzzle her young in
distress. No
special kind of faith or belief is needed or required to learn, practice or receive
Reiki. It is used with the same success by people of many faiths and religions,
by free thinkers as well as by followers of widely differing philosophies and
ideologies. Sadly,
in the western world our healing skills have been neglected or forgotten and we
have been giving up the power to heal ourselves. At a time when the pace of life
is becoming faster and faster, and demands on our bodies becoming greater and
greater, many of the ancient natural healing therapies are being rediscovered
and, with the trend towards more holistic therapies that power is now being reclaimed. Reiki
in no way conflicts with medical procedures, in fact it supports and enhances
all medical treatments. It can be incorporated effectively into the healing arts
practised by health professionals from traditional and alternative medicine. Clients
are treated fully clothed usually lying on a therapy couch although it can be
done seated. The channel's hand are placed in a series of positions lightly on
or just above the client's body. Healing takes place mentally, emotionally, physically
and spiritually and at all levels of consciousness. One of the beauties of Reiki
is that it heals at such a deep level that emotional blockages and suppressed
feelings, which can often manifest themselves in a physical way, are released
allowing deep personal healing to take place. In
cases of terminal illness Reiki enhances the quality of life, allowing for peace
and serenity in the time remaining. Acute injuries can be helped to heal very
quickly, though more chronic injuries may take longer. On
a spiritual level Reiki offers both the healee and the healer a greater experience
of higher consciousness, self-awareness and intuition. In some cases the experience
will facilitate profound life changes such as positivity, creativity and personal
growth. Seichem
(pronounced Say- Keem) is an Egyptian word referring to a person's God-energy
or spark of the creator that we each carry deep within us. It was one of the healing
arts practised in the temples long ago. In some systems Seichem adds the just
the fire elemental healing ray (see below). In Tera Mai, Seichem adds to the earth
elemental healing ray of Reiki, healing rays associated with all
of the other elements. The
fire element is represented by Sakara, an energy that works on the electro-magnetic
field surrounding the body (the aura), and has a sparkling or tingling feeling
when channelled a bit like small electrical impulses. It "burns" through
blockages and cleanses the chakras. Sophi-El
represents the element of water. Water is associated with the emotions and Sophi-El
opens the heart to feel love and compassion. It reaches deep within the emotions
to find the core of disturbances. It can help with removing addictions and it
enhances psychic awareness and increases intuitive abilities. It is felt as a
gentle, pulsating coolness or intense icy-cold. The
air and spirit elements are combined in a two-fold ray called Angeliclight. Air
is associated with communication, so healing of both the third eye and throat
chakras is increased. As its name implies Angeliclight establishes a link with
the Angelic realms, facilitating contact with angels, guides and higher beings.
It is usually felt as light cool breezes and often clients experience healing
being carried out nowhere near the hands of the healer. Without
the grounding and earthing properties of Reiki to form a base no other element
can be channelled. Reiki can benefit physical, mental and emotional health and
is usually experienced as warmth or coolness, just like the surface of the earth. All
of these elemental rays work individually or together depending on the needs of
the healee who will draw as much of each as they need. When all four rays are
working together the negative energy has nowhere to "hide". For
